Anything at all. Your choice. What's the most California way to get around?
Why do I ask, you say? Because I'm tired of hearing that the best-selling vehicle for nearly every state is the Ford F-Series. I'm more interested in what the best vehicle for the state should be.
Also, if you think the most California vehicle happens to be the F-Series, then by all means put it down.
And as always...
Choose wisely!

Prius. I certainly don't think it's the *best* (in fact it probably is one of the worst) way to get around. But driving a prius says California like no other.

Prius

For driving across the desert and hard parking in front of the club.

1968 Mustang California Special, because...............special.

Any old Porsche convertible or really any car that looks nice and different and you like to drive.
I'd LOVE an RWB 911 to cruise around in Cali..

What else?

Classic Convertible Caddy. It is impossible to park anywhere, terribly inefficient, and is a poster child for form over function. In other words, it perfectly reflects the dual insanity and desirability of living here.
![]() 01/02/2014 at 16:31 |

This is probably the most California everything ever.

LS600h
Subtle, conservative but super luxurious and opulent, HOV lane rights (do they still do that for Hybrids?) and a big race derived V8
Its the perfect car for California

Was it one of those that was on Big Muscle with a massive blower sticking out of the bonnet? Definitely a good call.

Having just watched the new "Comedians in Cars," this is a solid contender

When I think California I think gen 1 convertible light-blue Mustangs and VW Beetles of any kind (not the new beetle though).
Maybe these days a Tesla, since they are built there.
Personally I'd go for the Mustang.

Fiat 500e, so Californian it is sold exclusively there.

Is that first one really the best way to get around in California? More like the most boring...

made by a Texas chicken farmer :] But yes in a way

Actually, I just remembered what the best choice is:

Since this is "all time", my vote is on the Beetle.
If we are talking present day only, unfortunately it is probably a Prius or middle class camry/civic/accord/corolla beige-mobile

My relative in California drives a Corvette cabrio, so I'd go with that. Not sure why, but it makes sense to me as well, the car is very California.

A late 70s Toyota, with a 20R/22R hybrid engine.

In my experience visiting California, the most overwhelming car I remember seeing was the S Class, hands down.

The Ferrari Kansas.

You can't drive solo in the HOV lane with regular hybrids anymore. You have to have a plug-in hybrid or pure EV.

This wins. Nobody can afford it. But everyone in CA would buy one if they could :)
![]() 01/02/2014 at 17:21 |

Exactly. It's so perfect that they named the state after it.
![]() 01/02/2014 at 17:27 |

Anything convertible.

Mercedes-Benz 250SL California Coupe
The 250SL California Coupe was a very rare 2+2 version of the already rare 1-year-only 250SL. Instead of a folding top, the space was occupied by a pair of small seats and the car was only paired with the removable Pagoda hardtop.
How much more California can you get from a car with California in its name?

It can be, depending on the shift program you have it in. At least you have 11 programs to choose from!

I've always wanted to cruise Highway 1 in one of these.
